Molly

Molly dropped her books by the front door and raced up the stairs to change out of her school uniform, a navy blue wool jumper and freshly starched white blouse. She couldn’t wait to go out to play in the park with her best friend. She paused for a second to take in the fresh scent that greeted her. It was laundry day and Nana had hung the laundry, as she always did, in front of the fireplace, filling the whole house with the fresh scent of starch.

“Molly! Don’t forget to put your laundry away!”, called her mother up the stairs after her.

“I won’t, Mama,” Molly called down the stairs as she rounded the bannister and raced to her room.
